RIP Duane Michals
"Miraculously, in the darkness, he began to see the snow covered peak of Mt. Fujiyama.
I was expressing how much I love your work to a friend, not knowing that you were gone. I'd say you were an influence on my work, but more so an influence on my approach to things. For me there was always a story in your work, and I sensed playfulness and spontaneity as well.
Recently I began to adapt one of my favorite sessions around the concept of story — this might be considered backwards by some, but when I looked at the images it was already there and all I had to do was reveal it.
Being someone who never takes the easy path, I've decided that I'm going to learn book-binding as a way to present it. So it may be a while before it comes to fruition.
Until then, here’s a couple of pages.
The model for this session was Miss Contractor. She’s bloody amazing and I’m privileged to have worked with her. Follow her on Instagram
Thank you Lizzie for working on the lettering for me. Lizzie’s Instagram

“I’ve always functioned on the principle of less purpose, more fun, and when times are stressful, it’s important to find and have fun. And I love it when something unexpected comes up. The best part is the discovery, and responding to and recognizing it. That’s what these films have been for me.”
