Who Am I?

If you build a website on platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix, they come with templates for generic pages to help you get started.
This one was the “About” page.
I’ve done enough of these over the years, and they’ve always felt a little like marketing speak. Being old(er), crotchety(er)—as opposed to young(er) and just crotchety—I didn’t have the appetite or will to do another.
But since I’m at least attempting to connect with people (otherwise, why have a website at all*), it seems worth revisiting the age-old question: Who am I?
So?
I’m a work in progress. This site will be a repository of things that represent that progress.
I’m moving away from all labels—because I think we’ve put too much weight on them as a culture.
We live in a time that places heavy emphasis on labels and symbols, which interferes with our ability to see people and situations without preconceptions. They create unnecessary division. Instead of seeking common ground, we look for ways to separate ourselves from that which is “other.”
In short, I’m trying to be the most authentic version of myself. Not really an answer—I get that. Some questions are better left pondered than answered—and this site is part of that process.
